Our August Guests

Last month, thirty-nine people were released from the geo facility and were welcomed by the warmth of our Colorado sun. Nineteen of them came to Casa de Paz representing fourteen countries: Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Chad, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Russia and our first guest from St. Lucia this year! Pictured above are some clothes, undergarments, socks, shoes and a backpack; one that will soon be dropped off at the geo facility for a loved one. Help us prepare backpacks for our deported friends by contacting us below.

Welcome Our New Team Member!

Help us welcome our newest team member, Alicia! One of Casa's fall '24 interns, Alicia A. (she/her/ella) is a recent CU Boulder graduate. We are so happy that she has joined our team as our Welcome Team and Advocacy Coordinator. Welcome!

Volunteer Opportunities

Cartas de Paz: Thank you all who currently or previously volunteered in our Cartas de Paz Program! Combined, you've written to almost 1900 detained immigrant friends since 2022! Remind that one awesome friend (you know who!) to join our pen-pal program; our training is conveniently online
Visitation: As more people are detained, the need for volunteers to visit grows. Consider reaching out if you'd like to join our visitation team.
Welcome Team: Join the welcome team by signing up here. Shifts include donating a pizza, driving a guest to their destination, or joining a team member at our COW to welcome released people.

If you have questions, we'd love to hear from you!

Thank you!
¡Gracias!

Outreach Event

We had an amazing time last month at Westwood's Saigon Aztec event! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to learn about Casa de Paz. Including the volunteers who stopped by to say hi!
During this event, many of you subscribed to our newsletter and were entered into a raffle to win awesome Casa swag! Our lucky winner was M.H. Congrats!

Concert

Last month, we had the honor of being invited to an incredible concert filled with energy and PODER! Thank you Las Cafeteras for using your voice to speak up about the current injustices happening in our community. For new fans like ourselves; go check out their merch - you won't be disappointed!  PS: See you next time!

Fundraisers

Amazing people coordinated some fundraising events for Casa this past month. Check them out below!

Disco in Denver was amazing! Thank you RollDenver for hosting such a fun night! You all raised over $1,100 for Casa de Paz!

How fun was the volleyball fundraiser hosted by The Rocky Mountain Alumnae Association of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.?! The teams raised $600 to support Casa de Paz, Thank you!

Community Donations

This August, we were invited to present for two wonderful groups of people. Thank you Chandra for opening the doors to your home and coordinating a presentation and fundraising event with your friends! You all fundraised over $300 in gift cards for our guests!
Another shout out to Joyce from St. Luke's Episcopal Church, who coordinated a visit to Casa de Paz and dropped off several donations for our guests. Thank you!

How You Can Support Us Today

Wear your support: Check out our new shirt colors here! (Side note: Our new team favorite is the yellow shirt with red text!)

Pizza Donation: Join our On-Call Pizza Donation Signal Group, where you message us to coordinate a pizza delivery donation.

Donations Accepted: Our team has been diligently putting backpacks together for both our released friends and deported friends; take a look at our updated Donations Accepted document.

Fundraising Event: Per TSA, guests that are released by ICE without proper identification are not being allowed to travel by air anymore and are having to take a bus back to their families. What used to be a 3 hour flight, has now turned into a 24+ hour trip. Consider hosting a fundraising event that includes a presentation on immigration detention by one of our team members.

Love coffee? Casa de Paz will earn $3 for every coffee bag sold at Coffee for the Cause, when you select us at checkout!

King Soopers or City Market Community Rewards Program: Every time you shop and save at King Soopers, Kroger will donate to Casa de Paz with no cost to you! Once logged into your King Soopers or City Market account, search for Casa De Paz either by name or using the code FV916 and then click Enroll
